Dominoes
This task describes contact interaction of a large number of uncoupled objects. Objects movement is the result of gravity and friction. The first picture shows the initial condition of the model, where the blue domino bone is in a nonequilibrium state. Under gravity it is moving and contacting other objects of the model.
Domino bones were modeled with the help of SOLID164 elements. The basement plate consists of SHELL163 elements. Domino bones’ material was determined by the consideration of «conditional undeformability». MAT_ELASTIC material model from LS-DYNA library meets this requirement.
Physically realistic contact interaction was provided by using the options of the CONTACT AUTOMATIC_SURFACE_TO_SURFACE control card. Animation, which you can see here, shows hardly predictable, nonlinear behavior of model objects in the process of their movement:
