Metric thread

An example illustrates the simulation environment LS-DYNA stress-strain state of a threaded connection in a rapidly growing external force action. By the condition of the tasks on the fitting screw-nut tensile strength of 1000 H in the axial direction on the time interval 0.1 sec.
Geometrical models of objects and bolt nut M12x1.25 GOST 24705-81 (ST SEV 182-75) were created in SolidWorks and transferred to the preprocessor LS-PREPOST using the format IGES. It should be noted that with proper preprocessing with this format, no additional manipulation of the transferred part geometry in the future is not required.
The figures show the finite-element models for the objects of research. Grid included 47,619 and 14,581 solid-state elements SOLID164 bolt and nut, respectively, and was created by an automated build.
As models of the bolt material used PLASTIC_KINEMATIC with an additional criterion for the destruction of a given value of the limit strains. Model material nuts - Rigid Bodies. The choice of material of one of the interacting objects «hard» is certainly not entirely correct in terms of real physical-mechanical deformation process, but allowed more clearly trace the dynamics of stress-strain state of a threaded part of one of the objects (bolts) and significantly shorten the time for decision.
At shown in the left
figure one can observe the distribution of stresses on the von Mises on
the model surface bolt. The higher values of
shear stresses are localized in the first turns and decrease with
increasing distance from them.

The next series of paintings reflects the stress-strain state of the model in cross-section, coinciding with the axis of rotation of the models. They expressed the concentration of critical stresses in the contact zone and adjacent layers with a trend of rapid decrease as we approach the center of the details.
More dynamic picture of the stress-strain state can be traced to the animation of deformation:
